So far I can trace back seven generations of the Caine/Cain line living in Nottingham. No wonder I felt homesick when I moved dahn sahhf to study! One of the wonderful perks of having come back home is how quick and easy it is to actually go to the places I’m finding in the records when I’m researching this side of my family.
So, one pleasantly mild day in January I hopped on a bus with Bigman and went to put some places to the names in my research notes
Long Stairs, home in 1841 to my 2x and 3x Great Grandmas Charlotte Lineham and Charlotte Richards. Through all the posh houses, past the court and the posh churches, through the gate that says no entry you will find the entrance to the slums. The liminal space between the haves and the have-nots
In the footsteps of my ancestors.
St Mary's, where 2x Great Gran Charlotte married 2x Great Grandad David. "Love over money, she found herself a man who would stay..."
David “The Iron Man of Radford” Cain
4x Great Grandad Henry would have passed through these doors on his way to a free holiday to Australia
